Preparing for the next step
Transition is a part of life for all learners. This can be transition to a new class, having a new teacher, or moving on to another school. Spooner Row Primary School is committed to working in partnership with children, families and other providers to ensure positive transitions occur. Planning for transition is a part of our provision for all learners with SEN. Moving classes will be discussed with you and your child during the summer term. Additionally, provision will include a taster day for children in their new class and an evening meeting for parents to attend. If your child requires any further support around transition an additional meeting with the teaching team involved might be set up. If you have any concerns prior to transition please raise them with the class teacher or SENCo.
Transition to secondary schools will be discussed in the summer term of Year 5, to ensure time for planning and preparation. Year 6 children will receive further support from their respective secondary schools and this will include visiting the schools for transition days and having staff visit Spooner Row. If children require even more support during this time then an enhanced transition can be developed in partnership with the secondary school to allow more visits and time to ensure children are prepared and confident for the move. If you have any concerns prior to transition please raise them with the class teacher or SENCo.
