Last week we enjoyed a range of Humpty Dumpty inspired activities including an egg hunt, a paper plate Humpty and an exciting Science investigation! We became Science detectives to help solve the problem – How can we stop Humpty Dumpty from breaking when he falls off the wall?
We predicted whether or not Humpty Dumpty (a plastic egg) would crack when dropped off a wall surrounded by different materials (sawdust, wooden bricks, marbles etc.). Before making our prediction we were given the opportunity to touch and explore the materials. We then discussed their properties as a group (if the material was soft or hard, rough or smooth etc.). Afterwards we had a class vote and recorded our predictions on a chart by colouring either the smooth egg or cracked egg in the correct column.
We were very good at this and got all of them except one correct!
